Denise deCaires Narain is a Senior Lecturer in English at the University of Sussex. She has also taught with the Open University and at the University of the West Indies. She teaches courses on postcolonial writing with an emphasis on the Caribbean and teaches a course on the work of Jean Rhys and Jamaica Kincaid. She has particular research interests in postcolonial women’s writing and is currently working on a monograph on the relationship between ‘maids and madams’ in a diverse range of postcolonial women’s texts. She has published widely on Caribbean women’s writing, including Caribbean Women’s Poetry: Making Style and a book on Olive Senior is due out this year.
